Bol on Ice – World Skating Stars 2027

For international visitors, the name World Skating Stars gives a good indication of what to expect. Bol on Ice is built around leading international figure skaters, presenting their technical ability and performance skills outside the traditional format of a skating competition.

The ice becomes the stage for a production where individual performances are supported by music, choreography, costumes and specially designed lighting. The concept is intended to work both for established figure-skating followers and for spectators simply looking for a distinctive live show in Bologna.

Previous editions have also incorporated international guests from other artistic disciplines, including acrobats, dancers, singers and performers. The emphasis remains firmly on skating, but these additional elements help give Bol on Ice the structure of a full arena production rather than a conventional exhibition.

No specific 2027 skating line-up should be assumed until individual participants are officially confirmed.

Two World Skating Stars Shows in Bologna

The 2027 edition offers two opportunities to see the show at Unipol Arena:

Saturday, January 9, 2027 – 8:00 PM
Sunday, January 10, 2027 – 4:00 PM

The different start times make the weekend suitable for a broad audience. Saturday provides a traditional evening arena show, while Sunday's afternoon performance offers an alternative for families and visitors planning a weekend in Bologna.

Bol on Ice has established a strong relationship with the area through previous editions at Unipol Arena. Earlier shows have attracted large audiences, and the organisers describe previous editions as sold out. The January 2027 return continues that connection with the venue.

Figure Skating at Unipol Arena

Unipol Arena is located in Casalecchio di Reno, just outside central Bologna, and is one of the region's main venues for concerts, sporting events and large-scale entertainment.

For World Skating Stars, the arena is transformed around an ice rink that acts as the central performance space. The venue's arena layout allows spectators to watch the skating from different angles and seating levels, while the production uses the wider space for lighting, music and visual elements surrounding the ice.

The arena is also accessible from Bologna by road and public transport, making the event a practical option for both local spectators and visitors travelling to the city.

What to Expect from World Skating Stars

Bol on Ice is not presented as a competitive skating championship. Instead, it gives the skaters the opportunity to perform within a show created specifically for a live audience.

Technical skating and interpretation are central to the production, while the combination of movement, music and visual staging makes the format accessible even to spectators who do not regularly follow figure skating competitions.

That distinction is what makes World Skating Stars Bologna 2027 particularly suited to an international audience: prior knowledge of the sport is not necessary to follow the performances or appreciate the skill of the skaters on the ice.
