Bologna's Indoor Arena

The Unipol Arena opened in December 1993 in Casalecchio di Reno, on the south-western edge of the metropolitan area of Bologna, originally as the Palasport Casalecchio (PalaMalaguti). It was the home arena of Virtus Pallacanestro Bologna from 1996 to 2017, during one of the most successful periods of the club, including its EuroLeague title runs. A major restyling in 2008 added new video screens, seats and a museum dedicated to Virtus history.

The venue was renamed Futurshow Station in 2008 and then Unipol Arena in October 2011 under a sponsorship deal with the insurance group Unipol. As of summer 2016, basketball capacity was expanded from 8,650 to 11,000 seats, while concert mode can host up to 20,000 spectators, making it one of Italy's largest indoor arenas. It regularly stages tours by major Italian and international artists, plus boxing, wrestling and trade shows.
