The Original Zénith

Le Zénith Paris stands at the northern end of the Parc de la Villette in the 19th arrondissement. Commissioned by Culture Minister Jack Lang in 1983 as a flexible, affordable rock-and-pop hall, it was designed by architects Philippe Chaix and Jean-Paul Morel and opened on 12 January 1984 with a concert by Renaud. Its silver-clad tent silhouette became the prototype for the national network of Zénith arenas now found across French cities.

The hall's modular bowl can be reconfigured between roughly 2,200 and 9,000 spectators, with an all-seated maximum of 6,804. Around 150–170 events a year draw more than 700,000 visitors annually. It remains one of Paris's busiest and most architecturally significant concert venues, embedded in the Villette cultural park alongside the Philharmonie de Paris and the Cité de la Musique.
