Visarno Arena, Florence
Visarno Arena is Florence's principal open-air concert site, laid out on the grounds of the Ippodromo del Visarno inside the Parco delle Cascine, the city's largest park along the Arno. The racecourse itself dates back to 1847, and the site's equestrian tradition reaches even further, with the Corsa dell'Arno of 1827 counted among Italy's oldest gallop races. As a music venue it has been active since 2015, hosting artists such as David Gilmour, Sting and Massive Attack, and since 2017 it has been the home of Firenze Rocks, the festival that has brought The Rolling Stones, Muse, Green Day and other international headliners to Florence.
The wide, flat expanse of the old hippodrome gives the arena festival-scale capacity while keeping the wooded Cascine parkland as its backdrop.
Getting there
The arena is inside the Parco delle Cascine, west of Florence's historic centre on the north bank of the Arno, on Via Giuseppe Saverio Mercadante. The park is a short ride from the city centre and Santa Maria Novella station, and walking and cycling routes run through the Cascine to the site.
