Paolo Mazza Stadium, Ferrara
The Paolo Mazza Stadium is the historic home of SPAL, Ferrara's football club. Opened in September 1928 as the Stadio Comunale, it took its current name in 1982 in honour of the club's long-serving president Paolo Mazza. The ground has been rebuilt repeatedly across its history — most recently expanded during SPAL's climb back to Serie A, reaching a capacity of around 16,000 — and its compact stands close to the pitch preserve the feel of a classic Italian city-centre football ground.
Getting there
The stadium lies on Corso Piave, close to Ferrara's historic centre, and is easily reached on foot from much of the city. Local buses and taxis connect it with Ferrara railway station in a few minutes, and on match days walking is often the simplest way in and out of the surrounding streets.
