RCF Arena rises on Campovolo, the non-operational area of Reggio Emilia's airfield that Italian music fans have known for years as the site of landmark open-air shows. The project to turn it into a purpose-designed venue began in 2016 and was completed in June 2022, when the arena was inaugurated with Luciano Ligabue's concert celebrating thirty years of his career. With space for up to 100,000 people on an audience floor raked at five percent for sightlines and acoustics, it is described by RCF as the largest outdoor concert venue of its kind in Europe.

How the arena is laid out

This is a standing venue: instead of fixed stands, the great sloped field is divided per show into colour-coded zones. The fenced areas closest to the stage are usually sold as Pit or Prato Gold, with Prato and Posto Unico covering the open field behind them; each production publishes its own map of zones such as Gold, Red, Yellow and Blue.

Getting there

Reggio Emilia's main railway station, on the Milan–Bologna line, is about 2 km from the arena on foot via Viale Ramazzini and Via dell'Aeronautica. The high-speed station Reggio Emilia AV Mediopadana lies roughly 4.5 km away. Local buses 10 and 11 serve the area on regular days, but for the biggest concerts the whole zone around the arena becomes pedestrian for safety, so plan to walk the final stretch.
