From Urban Park to Concert Field

Stretching for about 1,200 hectares between Ferrara's Renaissance walls and the Po river, Parco Urbano Giorgio Bassani was recognised as an Urban Territorial Park in 1975, after a 1960s–1970s campaign led by Italia Nostra together with writer Giorgio Bassani and lawyer Paolo Ravenna. It complements the city's celebrated Addizione Erculea, the 15th-century expansion that earned Ferrara its reputation as Europe's first modern city.

Named after Bassani in 2008, the park is the green lung of the city, rich in biodiversity. Since Bruce Springsteen's 2023 show in front of around 60,000 fans, the park has become one of Italy's largest concert sites and the home of the Ferrara Summer Festival, with line-ups featuring international names alongside major Italian artists. Vasco Rossi plays two nights here in 2026.

• By bike — ~10 minutes along the Mura Estensi from central Ferrara; shuttle buses on big concert days.
