Universal Forum to Music Festival
The Parc del Fòrum is a vast public esplanade at the mouth of the Besòs river, straddling the boundary between Barcelona's Sant Martí district and Sant Adrià de Besòs. Designed by Elías Torres and José Antonio Martínez Lapeña and inaugurated in 2004, it was created as the centrepiece of the Universal Forum of Cultures and is dominated by Herzog & de Meuron's triangular Edifici Fòrum (now the Museu Blau).
Since 2005 the Parc has been home to Primavera Sound, which moved here from Poble Espanyol and grew into one of Europe's largest urban music festivals; it has also hosted Cruïlla Festival, Cirque du Soleil residencies and elite triathlons. Festival capacity peaked at 95,000 between 2016 and 2022 and now stands at around 75,000, with recent multi-day Primavera editions drawing approximately 268,000 attendees.
