National Hockey Stadium Malaysia, Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur
The National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil was built in 1997 and opened in 1998 as part of the National Sports Complex constructed for the 1998 Commonwealth Games, the first held in Asia. Located in KL Sports City alongside the Bukit Jalil National Stadium and Axiata Arena, it remains Malaysia's principal field hockey venue and a regular stage for international tournaments, including the FIH Junior World Cup.
The stadium is managed within the Perbadanan Stadium Malaysia complex and has hosted generations of Malaysian national team fixtures, continental championships and multi-sport events since the Games.
Layout: two pitches, one main bowl
The venue is built around two floodlit artificial pitches. The main stadium seats up to 12,000 spectators, with a maximum capacity of 20,000 for major fixtures. A second pitch adjacent to the main bowl carries 2,000 seats and is used for warm-ups, undercard matches and tournament group games. Seating in the main stadium wraps the pitch in open stands typical of hockey venues, keeping sightlines close to the field.
Getting there
The simplest route is the LRT Sri Petaling Line to Bukit Jalil station (SP17), a short walk of a few minutes from the sports complex. The station normally operates from 6:00 to 23:59, and services are frequently extended past midnight on major event nights. By road, the stadium sits just off the Bukit Jalil Highway in the south of Kuala Lumpur, with parking shared across the KL Sports City precinct; on busy days the train is the more predictable option.
