Paris La Défense Arena

Opened in October 2017 in Nanterre, on the western edge of the La Défense business district, Paris La Défense Arena is the largest indoor arena in Europe. It was developed by rugby club Racing 92, whose home matches anchor the calendar, but the building was designed from the outset as a dual-purpose machine: a covered stadium for sport and a giant concert hall for international tours.

Configurations and capacity

The arena is modular. In its rugby configuration it seats 30,681 spectators; for concerts, capacity was originally 40,000 and was upgraded to 45,000 in 2024, a scale that lets it host residencies and one-off shows that would otherwise need an open-air stadium — with the advantage of a roof, year-round. The building's size and technical rigging have made it a fixture for the biggest touring productions passing through Paris.

Getting there

From central Paris, RER A serves both La Défense and Nanterre-Préfecture; Nanterre-Préfecture is the closer stop, about an eight-minute walk — take exit 2 (Dôme - Valmy / Arena) and follow the signs. Metro Line 1 terminates at La Défense (Grande Arche), around fourteen minutes on foot, and Tramway T2 plus Transilien lines L and U also call at La Défense.
