Lyon's Modern Stadium
Built in Décines-Charpieu, around 10 km east of central Lyon, the Parc Olympique Lyonnais was conceived from 2007 as Olympique Lyonnais's privately financed replacement for Stade de Gerland. After years of legal challenges, construction began in summer 2013 once Lyon was confirmed as a UEFA Euro 2016 host city. The stadium opened on 9 January 2016 with a 4–1 win over Troyes.
The venue has a 59,186 all-seater capacity including ~6,000 business seats and 105 boxes, and was renamed Groupama Stadium in 2017 under a naming-rights deal. It went on to host UEFA Euro 2016 fixtures, the 2018 Europa League Final, semi-finals at the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup, men's football at the Paris 2024 Olympics and a steady programme of rugby, NFL and major concerts.
