South America's Cauldron
Located in the working-class Barrio Obrero of Asunción, the stadium officially named Estadio General Pablo Rojas is the home of Club Cerro Porteño and hosted its first match on 24 May 1970. Long nicknamed La Olla (The Pot) for the cauldron-like atmosphere generated by its steep stands and azulgrana support, it became one of South America's most intimidating venues for visiting Copa Libertadores opponents from the 1970s onwards.
Between 2015 and 2017 the ground was almost entirely rebuilt with all-seater stands, modern hospitality and improved access, and was re-inaugurated on 19 August 2017 with a capacity of around 45,000. Since then it has carried the commercial name Estadio ueno La Nueva Olla under a naming-rights deal with banco ueno, making it the largest club-owned football stadium in Paraguay and a regular venue for major concerts and Paraguay national team matches.
