Villa Manin Udine, Passariano
Villa Manin is a grand Venetian villa in Passariano, near Codroipo in Friuli Venezia Giulia, and was the country residence of Lodovico Manin, the last Doge of Venice. Napoleon Bonaparte stayed here for about two months in 1797, and the Treaty of Campo Formio between France and Habsburg Austria was signed at the villa on 17 October that year.
Restored in the 1960s after the estate passed to the region, the monumental complex and its parkland now host exhibitions and, each summer, the Villa Manin Estate concert series, whose stages have welcomed major Italian and international acts.
Getting there
The villa stands on Stradone Manin in Passariano, a hamlet of Codroipo in the Friuli plain of northeastern Italy, roughly midway between Udine and Pordenone. Most concert-goers arrive by car along the regional roads through Codroipo; on big summer nights expect slow traffic on the approach lanes and signed parking in the fields around the estate.
