The Greatest Show on Earth World Tour 2027
U2's return to stadium touring follows a period of renewed musical activity and the celebration of the band's 50th anniversary in 2026.
The Greatest Show on Earth World Tour begins in Mexico City in February 2027, continues through São Paulo and Buenos Aires, and reaches Europe in April. Lisbon follows the concerts in Stockholm and Paris, before the tour continues to Amsterdam, London, Berlin and Milan.
The upcoming production represents a return to the large-scale stadium concerts that have defined much of U2's live history. Their previous stadium tour, The Joshua Tree Tour 2019, concluded in Mumbai in December 2019.
For the new tour, the band has announced a career-spanning repertoire, bringing together music from different periods of their recording history. The precise setlist for Lisbon has not been confirmed.
Carnaval De Luz: New Music and Classic U2 Songs
The 2027 concerts support Carnaval De Luz, U2's sixteenth studio album, scheduled for release on November 13, 2026. Produced by Jacknife Lee, it is the band's first album of entirely new studio material in nine years.
The project introduces a new creative direction while maintaining the guitar-driven sound associated with the group. Its singles include "Street of Dreams," "Silencio" and "The Greatest Show on Earth."
The title track, co-written with Brian Eno, was released in October 2026 alongside a music video directed by Anton Corbijn, U2's longtime visual collaborator.
The album also features contributions from Martin Garrix and Daniel Lanois, reflecting the band's continuing interest in combining rock music with electronic and experimental influences.
Alongside the new songs, U2's catalogue includes some of the most recognisable recordings in modern rock, from "Where the Streets Have No Name" and "With or Without You" to "One," "Sunday Bloody Sunday," "Beautiful Day" and "Vertigo."
With the tour designed to draw from across their discography, the Lisbon concert offers an opportunity to experience the band's current music alongside material spanning several generations.
U2's Return to Lisbon After Their 2018 Concerts
Lisbon has a long history with U2.
The band previously performed at Estádio José Alvalade during the Zoo TV Tour in 1993, the PopMart Tour in 1997 and the Vertigo Tour in 2005.
Their most recent Lisbon appearances took place on September 16 and 17, 2018, when they played two concerts at Altice Arena during the eXPERIENCE + iNNOCENCE Tour.
Those performances included songs such as "Beautiful Day," "Elevation," "Vertigo," "Pride (In the Name of Love)," "New Year's Day" and "One."
The May 2027 concert marks their return to the Portuguese capital after almost nine years and their first appearance at the current Estádio da Luz.
Unlike the indoor production presented in 2018, this concert brings the band back to an open-air stadium setting, with a new stage production and music from Carnaval De Luz.
Estádio da Luz: A Major Concert Venue in Lisbon
Located in the Benfica district of Lisbon, Estádio da Luz is the home stadium of SL Benfica and one of Portugal's most prominent sporting and entertainment venues.
Opened in 2003, the stadium has a seating capacity of approximately 68,100 in its regular football configuration, although concert layouts and capacities can differ.
Its large stands, modern infrastructure and established role in hosting international events make it a fitting setting for U2's return to Portugal.
The stadium is accessible by Lisbon's public transport network, including metro services, making it convenient for visitors travelling from different parts of the city.
