Rammstein, literally translated as “ramming stone” is the German Neue Deutsche Härte band founded in Berlin in 1994. The band’s lineup includes vocalist Till Lindemann, lead guitarist Richard Kruspe, rhythm guitarist Paul Landers, bassist Oliver Riedel, drummer Christoph Schneider and keyboardist Christian “Flake” Lorenz. The method of song creation has not changed, including Lindemann’s creation and singing of lyrics on instrumental works completed by other members of the band. Before their establishment, some members were related to the punk rock band Feeling B and First Arsch.
Rammstein was one of the first bands to appear in the Neue Deutsche Härte genre. Their first album led the music media to create the term, and their music style was generally positively evaluated by music critics. Commercially, the band is very successful and has won many first albums and gold and platinum certifications in countries around the world. Their grand live performances, usually featuring fireworks, have contributed to their popularity growth. Despite their success, the band received some controversy and their overall image was criticized; for example, the song “Ich tu dir weh” forced its mother album Liebe ist für alle da to be re-released in Germany and was deleted due to explicit lyrics .
